by Kty & Fred (c)1998-1999

MAJOR CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE DOC SINCE AU2, SO YOU *REALLY* SHOULD READ THIS
REVISION OF THE DOCUMENTATION AS THIS PROGRAM IS NOT EASY TO USE AND BAD MANIPULATION MAY CAUSE HEAVY DAMAGES TO YOUR DATA.

Disclaimer

We can't be held responsible for whatever could happen( or not!) to your TI92+/89. That is to say there is no warranty that our system will recover data in any cases and that it won't damage your calculator. But keep in mind that it would be extremely unlikely that software could damage hardware...

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure that your batteries are in good condition. No "batt" in the status line. And if we ask you in the installation to make a reset, DO IT!. It's necessary if you don't want to have some troubles.

ARCHIVE UTILITY IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PRGM SUCH AS moremem THAT ALLOW YOU TO HAVE 64Kb OF MORE ARCHIVE MEMORY FREE.

Description

This utility allows you to manage your archives. The most interesting use is that you can recover ALL your archives after a CRASH or a RESET !!
You know, sometimes it happens :)
AU3 was *entirely* rewritten since AU2. It's more complete, more stable and it is interface in a better way with the TIOS.

When installing AU3.00, be sure that you have a copy of your ROM in a .tib format. This way, you could easily uninstall AU3.00 in sending the .tib to your calculator.

Maybe it will be the last major update of Archive Utility since TI seems to realize, at last, that recovering archives is usefull. Actually, AMS2.00 available in october 1999 will include an Archive Recovery utility :) Funny, isn't it ?

ZIP contains

The two following files aren't necessary; it is just a matter of security:

Which file for my calc ?

Not too much hard: if you know your ROM version just send to your calc the correct version:    (mm/dd/yy)

TI92+ ROM 1.00

05/21/1998

inst9210.9xz

TI92+ ROM 1.01

08/05/1998

inst9211.9xz

TI92+ ROM 1.05

inst9215.9xz

TI89 ROM 1.00

07/27/1998

inst8910.89z

TI89 ROM 1.05

inst8915.89z

MAYBE, AU3.00 won't install into your calc even if you have the good installer; It depends on the "age" of your calc... If you bought it before  June-July of 1999 then it is supposed to work. If it is recent, then AU3.00 won't install, your calc is likely to crash, but it'll work fine after !. But remember, if you're not sure of what you are doing, then GIVE UP.
If you got a no-indexed ROM version, please download the latest version of Archive Utility.
If you don't know your ROM version push F1 in the home screen, then A (about). Your ROM version will be displayed.
If you execute an incompatible version on your calc, it  doesn't matter: The prgm will tell you that you're mistaken. BUT if you execute an installer for 1.05 ROM on an NON 1.05 ROM calc, then your calc is likely to crash...But, that's not too hard to find the correct file for the correct file...:)

If you are sure that you're running the correct version but AU3.00 don't seems to be installed, please mail us. That means that you have probably a recent calculator and that TI finally decided to stop us saving your archives... :)

How to upload it to your calc

Note: You should archive any file you want to keep after the installation process, not archived files will be deleted.
Please backup everything before : your RAM will be cleared and your archives may be cleared.
Be sure (unless the installer detects it) that your batteries are not LOW
You need your batteries to be "normal".
Besides, your RAM mustn't be full.

If you are already an Archive Utility user you MUST reinstall completely a correct tib. You have NO other option.

Then send to your calc the correct file (see also Which file for my calc ?) using a TIGraphLink or $5 cable. The file is a *normal* TIxx file.
Execute it (without any kernel installed would be better, i.e: NO doorsOS or PlusShell), for example:    inst9210()
You'll be asked to enter the password (which can be "". We don't recommend it). If later you want to change the password you'll have to do it using AU3's menu (see below).
Note that reinstalling AU3 won't allow you to change the password if you already have changed the config (e.g. : ON->OFF or password) so that you NEED to know it to change it :-).

That's it ! You're a happy Archive Utility 3.00 user !

The password protection: How to launch the prgm

You have just installed the Archive Utility Manager ;)
To enter the manager you'll need to write in the home screen the password then using "hand" + "ON" ("alpha" + "ON" on the TI89) will activate the menu. For example if your password is "dba":

AU36.gif (4150 octets)

Here ON + hand (or alpha) will activate the menu.

Using our program

The DEFAULT configuration is the recommended one.

  1. Automatic restore on reset: DEFAULT
If it is labeled "ON", after a reset, your calc will automaticaly recover
all your archives. Else, if it is "OFF" you will have to select
    the second option;
  2. Restore now (your RAM MUST be EMPTY):
You will select this action if your RAM is empty and when the "Automatic restore on reset" option is "OFF".
  3. Change password:
Obviously just enter a new password; Press ESC to cancel. There is NO confirmation.
  4. Clear archives and reset:
Well, it *REALLY* clears your archives. You have to confirm your choice.
  5. Undelete Utility
Choose a file to recover from the flash memory. For example if you run an archived DoorsOS program, DoorsOS will unarchive the program and ALL the needed libraries, and as it is very likely to crash your TI, you'll be able to retrieve the program and the libraries after the reset. Do not run DoorsOS without AU3 until Doors(os) becomes Doors'OS' ! :)
  6. Exit:
Not much to say... When you exit your password in the home screen will be cleared :)

Temporary delayed

  1. Send a FLB
FLash Backup is a very usefull fonctionality that allows you to make a complete backup (i.e: FAT + data) of your archives to your computer through the $5 cable. Besides you can also send an 'Image' of your archives to another TI92+ or TI89.
  2. Receive a FLB and reset
Receive a FLB from a computer or from another TI92+ or TI89. It will reset your calc, and you will loose your RAM.

Uninstalling

Sometimes, people don't seem to use Archive Utility in the right way, so they ask us how to uninstall it because they never read the documentation. Well, to uninstall AU3.00, for now, you need to install a new .tib from Texas Instruments. A .tib is the ROM upgrade that TI offers on its site. An uninstaller may become available some day.

Troubles

No feedbacks for now.
